TECBAR and SCL Joint Lecture – Experts: what input can and should lawyers have?

The Society of Construction Law and the Technology & Construction Bar Association will be holding a lecture at the National Liberal Club, 1 Whitehall Pl, Westminster, London SW1A 2HE on 3 December 2024 from 6:30pm.

The topic of the lecture is: “Experts: what input can and should lawyers have?”

The lecture will be chaired by Mrs Justice Jefford and presented by:

  • David Turner KC, 4 New Square Chambers
  • Gurmukh Riyat, Greenberg Traurig
  • Dr Ronan Champion, Champion Pearce LLP

In this lecture, the speakers will discuss the difficult issue of the extent to which lawyers can have involvement in the expert process following Glover v Fluid Structural Engineers and Technical Designers Limited [2024] EWHC 1257 and similar cases. David Turner KC will outline the guidance provided by the English Courts, Gurmukh Riyat will talk about the practical challenges of ensuring that the client gets the best out of the expert and Ronan Champion will talk about what helps an expert in terms of guidance / assistance from the legal team and what is unhelpful.
